A complete system can be built AND installed easily, and for less than $100! The Magniwork plans are getting rave reviews. Great business opportunity for those who wish to build and install these systems! http Did you know that you could completely eliminate your power bill, by constructing a zero point magnetic power generator? A Zero point magnetic power generator is basically a Free Energy Generator. It uses magnets, and magnetic force to induce perpetual motion. It runs by itself, indefinitely without stopping, thus creating completely free electrical energy, which can fully power your home for free. A Perpetual motion device refers to a machine that runs perpetually ie indefinitely, and produces a larger amount of energy than it consumes. Thus, it produces free energy indefinitely, runs by itself, without having to need a third-party device or resource to power it. The free energy devices have been suppressed by the corporate world, because such devices, would allow people to create their own energy for free, which would ultimately shut down the big energy corporations, because people won't need to pay anymore for electricity to fill their pockets. Question Mechanical Engineers Say that Perpetual Motion is not Possible Under the Laws of Phisics?
Mechanical Engineers Say that Perpetual Motion is not Possible Under the Laws of Phisics? Well, I have Built an Electric Generator that uses power inverters, a solar panel, a wind generator and an electric motor and can produce 3000 watts of continuous power 24 hours a day. So, who would want to buy such a device? would the military buy it or would the government try to block me from seeking a patent for it because it could damage their oil revenue?

Best Answer There is this phenomenon called sonoluminescence, where a spherical glass container full of water is harmonized by speakers to 20 KHz. An air bubble introduced into the water becomes hot and bursts into light when it reaches the center of the glass container. The temperature of the air bubble is heated to over 30,000 degrees celcius, roughly five times hotter than the surface of the sun. According to conventional laws of physics, it would require trillions of times more energy than what is used to produce the sound that harmonizes the glass. There are tons of theories on what could be causing this phenomenon, none which can be explained by conventional laws of physics. Cold fusion scientists use this phenomenon as a basis for cold fusion theories. In nature, pistol shrimp have been observed to this phenonmenon to stun their prey. The snap sound produced by the super heated bubble can reach 230 db, which is louder than a blue whale and can be heard for miles. This makes a lowly shrimp the loudest animal on earth. The mere fact that this phenomenon exists and is easily proven in classrooms around the globe proves that free perpetual energy is available all around us. Tesla was right. We just need to learn how to harness it.
Question Is there a free guide anywhere on how to create an electric generator to power your home and/or appliances?
I'm trying to combat some of my financial burden by having an alternate electric source. I've heard you can create "near perpetual-motion" with magnets, but I'm not sure as to how it all works. Information needed: 1: Assembly 2: Energy storage 3: Resistance (preventing anything from blowing up when I plug it in)

Best Answer There is no way that you can produce your own electricity for less than what you are buying it for from your power company. If there was a less expensive way to produce the electricity, your power company would be using it, believe me.
Question Electric Generator to Electric motor efficiency?
If you were to hook an electric motor and an electric generator together and powered the motor from an external source, what would the output of the generator be? Obviously it would not be the same or it would be a perpetual motion machine, but what would the approximate ratio be? Thanks

Best Answer A formula. Efficiency of combined operations is the multiple of all the operations. Therefore if we had a motor that was 75% efficient and a generator that was 80% efficient the overall efficiency would be (.75 x .80 =) .60 or 60% efficient. The mechanics of supplying power to the electric motor, electric motors and generators have variable efficiencies depending upon the design, materials used, maintenance and wear. Electric motors can be very efficient with some of the highest around 97 to 98% efficient. http://www1.eere.energy.gov/industry/bestpractices/pdfs/mc-0382.pdf

Question Do magnets affect perpetual motion in space?
(in space) if a metal magnet ring surrounds a rod of metal that you set spinning, will the magnetism eventually slow down the spinning rod, or will it just center the rod inside of the ring and allow it to spin as long as it is undisturbed?

Best Answer Depends on a couple things. The direction the rod is pointed and the direction it is spinning. If the axis of rotation of the rod, the axis of rotational symmetry of the cylindrical shape of the rod, and the magnetic moment of the metal were all pointed in the same way, no current would be induced in the metal rod and it would not slow down. But it would not automatically center itself. If the magnetic moment wobbles, or the metal moves in any way which is not along its axis of rotational symmetry, it will not be a maintainable situation. If there are any currents induced or if the magnet itself is producing a time-varying field seen by someone nearby who is not rotating with it, it will slow down.
Question Perpetual motion with earth magnets. Science Fair. Need examples DONT NEED STUPID or "CAN NOT HAPPEN" comments
I am trying to research a more in depth way of discovering perpetual motion. The best I can figure out is magnets. Although they because useless overtime it is the beset in terms of efficency. Any ideas that might work? Like the nail and 1/2 watt bulb?

Best Answer You can't make anything with "real perpetual motion", but you can make devices that keep extracting power from their surroundings as long as the power source is available and they remain in working order. A science fair project explaining the difference might work. In principle, you can extract energy from the earth's rotation. It would seem as though you could do so with a pendulum or gyroscope You could have a Foucault pendulum with a piece from an old-fashioned grandfather clock that keeps the pendulum swinging despite friction, only driven by the apparent rotation of the pendulum. Or you could have a gyroscope that's kept turning by its own precession. Either way, what would make or break the project is the writing along with it. You would need to write about Foucault pendulums or precession of gyroscopes, but you would also need to write about conservation of angular momentum, and explain why it's a problem for the device in question, and what in the real world actually *does* extract energy from the earth's rotation.
Question Perpetual Motion and magnets...?
Second question of mine here... Okay, if you had a non-magnetic tube, and inside this tube were three magnets. The magnet in the center is free to spin around and thus exert it's negative and positive forces to different ends of the tube. Now, attach to the same point on the central magnet two small strings connected to the other two magnets, and another small string connecting the two side magnets. Have both end magnets have the same polarity toward the center magnet(lets say it's the negative side for this). You start the magnets off with one close to the center (magnet1) magnet and one away (magnet2). Magnet2 is far and thus it's string is extending so that only the negative portion of the center magnet is facing Magnet1. Being repelled away by the center magnet, magnet1 will pull it's string tight and thus turn the center magnet and at the same time pull magnet2 toward the center. Magnet2 would then be repelled by the center magnet and would pull it's string to cause the center magnet to turn again and pull magnet1 to the center. Wouldn't this create perpetual motion? Even though you'd need to use some for of energy to start the process, wouldn't the repelling of the magnets and pull of the center magnet when it's opposite faces one of the side magnets create it's own motion?

Best Answer Energy will be lost in each pull of the string. Eventually the magnets will reach a equilibrium state.

Yahoo Answers For Perpetual Motion Device
Question how does a perpetual motion device violate the first (and second?) law of thermodynamics?
I'm confused why a perpetual motion device wont work b/c of HOW it violates the 1st and 2nd laws. I guess b/c i dont understand the laws very well

Best Answer The main confusion is that "perpetual motion device" doesn't mean what it appears to mean. Classically, a perpetual motion device is one of two things: 1) something that continues to operate even as you extract useful work from it. It's not just something that spins forever, but it's something that pumps water forever, or runs an electric light forever, or drives a car forever, without any renewal of fuel or other energy source. 2) something that loses energy to friction, but, by some technique, extracts all the energy from the heat and uses it to replace its lost energy, so that it never spins down. For the first case, when you think of it as "something that runs forever without spinning down", well, physics doesn't forbid that. An object spinning around in a perfect vacuum in an empty universe would not be violating the laws of thermodynamics by spinning forever. However, if it were being used to power a light bulb, and the light shone even while the object didn't change in any way, then there is energy coming from nowhere, and that is a violation of the laws of physics. This is the first law case, a machine that just keeps creating energy. Now, the second law case is a bit trickier. Let's say you had a wheel that was spinning. It would start to spin more and more slowly, as its motion is lost to heating up the air and heating up the axle around which it is spinning. So, somebody might ask if there is a way to take that heat and use it to speed up the wheel again. That is, to convert that heat back to mechanical energy with 100% efficiency. This is forbidden by the second law, which sets an upper limit on the efficiency with which you can extract energy from a temperature difference.
Question Is there any evidence of a successful perpetual motion device?
i have developed a prototype device that uses several means of power generation without any external sources. meaning it runs on it's own power continuously without stopping. what are the chances of getting patent approval.

Best Answer Not a drop. Secondly, considering man has been trying for the last 80 years and has consistently failed in this endeavor, I'd bet the bank on yours being a pipe dream also. In order to produce perpetual motion, you would have to defy the natural laws of physics. There may be a place in the universe this is possible, but it damn sure ain't here.
Question Did I just make a perpetual motion device?
Dear yahoo. I think I just made a perpetual motion thing. If I leave the water on in the sink the floating wooden spoon keeps moving back and forth in the exact same way every time. Did I just make science?

Best Answer Perpetual motion devices are physically impossible due to the Law of Conservation of Energy. In any mechanical device you will have some energy that is lost due to friction. Friction generally creates heat which is transferred to the environment increasing the ambient energy. So the answer to your question is no. The water flowing into the sink is creating the motion and you do NOT want to know how much energy is is taking to get that water to come out of your faucet.

Preston Stroud's replication of Kenneth Claypool's Gravity Propelled Generator. His US pattent application # 11/649457 on Jan 3, 2007 describes this as another perpetual motion free energy device. It is based on a pendulum that moves on rails hitting stops on both ends. This is stated to cause it to retain the pendulum's swing and not stop. It should have extra power that can run a generator as the pendulum swings. Kenneth Claypool is in Storm Lake, IA 50588 in the US. Preston Stroud (me) built a replication but could not get anything close to a free energy device with continuous motion from the pendulum on the track. This video shows my replication results.

Question If no more wheels, what would hover cars need?
I've been wondering lately if in the late 22nd century would most cars, trucks, or even motorcycles, even need wheels to be mobile. If neither of them need wheels in that time line, what would they have in place of them? Zero Gravity generators?

Best Answer They would need unobtainium (the movie Avatar).
Question Will water inside of an out of balance wheel ever reach equilibrium?
On paper I have drawn one out of balance wheel. It will forever remain out of balance. It has only 5 moving parts. Two independent discs forming the basic wheel shape. Two axles and one rubber membrane to contain the water on the inside. (an inner tube on the OD between the disc, joining the disc) The 2 independent axles are on opposite sides and centered on the two discs. The two axles are not on a parallel axis but slightly offset to provide a larger gap between the two disc on one side than on the other side. The weight advantage remains off center due to this configuration. I am looking for someone a lot smarter than me to tell me what amount of water turbulence/friction loss, bearing friction loss and elastic friction loss this has to overcome. There is a 70 pound weight advantage to work with. Less losses from these three variables all remaining is 100% free energy. A gravity engine. This model is 3 feet in diameter and 4 inches wide when static. (static is when the disc are parallel to each other and the weight is 50/50 of COG ) When the disc are offset away she goes, and when it stops, nobody knows….yet. “HYDRA-DRIVE”….the first PM machine in history that really works…on paper. Please do the math on one that is 40 feet in diameter and 1 foot wide! glmel@yahoo.com Additionally, this is no scam and it is free to the planet. Make all of them you wish and attach a generator to them, No sun, no wind, no problem. Enjoy!

Best Answer That is a difficult problem. But I think because of the 3 foot 4 inches the friction loss will be greater than the 70 pound weight Good Luck!!!
Question prepetual cars a thing of today?
general scientific concept. what we'll need is a battery, a generator, and the drive motor, unless you can design a motor, which will have the generator and drive motor coil together as one, which you can use to start and generate a car instead of having to have a generator and a started motor separately, anyway, when you will engage the deeper you engage the accelerator pedal the more coils on the drive motor will be connected, now when the energy has been extracted from the battery threw the motor to turn the gearbox to turn the wheels to make the vehicle move once the vehicle has been put in motion at a certain speed the motor and all will be disconnected from the main drive shaft, and now as the car is free wheeling along no energy should be lost, now when you come to a stop street or red robot or when you stop you will engage the brake pedal which will reabsorb the energy which has been extracted from the battery to move the car from the car and it will be regenerated into the battery, and when you move off the same energy will then again be extracted from the battery, but there's a few faults, allot of energy is lost dew to gravity, first of all the car has to be built extremely wind resistant, we will need a solar panel on top of the vehicle, audio to energy converters, heat to energy converters, the car will need to be equipped with an electronic device which indicates how much energy is stationary, and how much energy has been put in movement, and the car itself will need to be equipped with a petrol to electric generator to recharge the battery when a massive energy loss occurs, and overload protectors incase the battery gets overcharged, first of all up hills and down hills won't make a difference cause when you go on a downhill you will need an automatic electronic engagement to the generator to recharge itself cause where ever you'll find a downhill you'll find an uphill, and where ever you'll find an uphill you will come to an uphill, but there's allot of energy lost because of gravity trying to keep a moving object stationary, but this lost energy could be retrieved by audio, heat, and light dynamo's, a prototype car will need to be manufactured and then only will a certain outcome be gained, either will we have a perpetual car, or a car which will use one liter of fuel to take you 500kmh, see secondly, a fuel tank in a car is actually a huge battery, but side by side these two fight against each by the sake of how much energy is used to stop a moving object traveling at 80kmh which ways 1000kgs, that's enough energy to charge a battery to make the vehicle move off again, but it's a war against gravity with mankind, we will also need to equip the pedals with little generators so that when it's pressed energy is also absorbed, and converted into electricity, perpetual, or almost perpetual is the question, and only a physical test can prove this to the world, thirdly, the planet earth is undergoing severe damage cause by pollution, which comes from the vehicles exhaust emissions, and this plan will save the world from caving in on it self, this plan will save the world, from collapsing, we have to do the right thing, a liter of fuel a week from one car instead of 50 gallons will save the world, but physical and exact quantities and placements will be extracted from physical development and testing by DaRkXRiDeR. Let’s save the fucking planet, maybe the back up fueling energy might not even be needed

Best Answer 1. Air quality is much better now than 30 years ago. 2. "Global warming" is a government strategy to guilt you into accepting higher taxes. I'm all for clean energy, nuclear power being the best option now for electricity. (If you're against nuclear power too, then either live like the Amish or do more research on global warming and learn about the physics behind the hoax.) 3. This is a working model of how I believe the Finsrud perpetual motion machine actually works. I was quite fascinated by Reidar Finsrud's Perpetuum Mobile, but much more fascinated by people's reactions to it. I suspect that the latter was one of the real motivations for its creation, especially given his reputation as a very clever and versatile artist. He clearly has a playful sense of humor. Finsrud actually says very little about the Perpetuum Mobile. I haven't found a specific quote where he actually claims it is a perpetual motion machine. He sort of talks around it and drops hints, but let's other people make the enthusiastic claims and speculations. Obvious I could not resist participating! I recognized that the three cylindical magnets are electromagnets--which don't work as magnets unless they have electrical power supplied to them. How could I tell? One of the pictures shows the underside of one of these magnets. These electromagnets have a metal bar in the center, a coil wound around the core and protected by a seal of epoxy, and then an outer metal shell around the coil and the core. So the bottom will show a disk in the middle which is the end of the core, with a ring of epoxy of a different shade around that, and then an outer ring that is the edge of the shell. This is exactly what you see in the picture. In the video they clearly bob when the steel ball rolls past, so each one is powered on when the ball passes by. This led me to focus on the parts of the ...

How many days it will be taking to do the project?

Best Answer I dont speak or read the language that the link you provided was written in. It looked to be some scandinavian language. It appears to be some sort of perpetual motion mobile. I can tell you the real-world and thermodynamic limitations and exclusions for such a device. Perpetual motion does not exist in the real world. There are not infinite-precision manufacturing facilities, no infinite precision measurement facilities, and no infinite resolution calculation tools therefore perfect quality systems that have no losses or even small losses over "long" time periods can not be investigated or built. The real world makes things lossy, and that precludes any perpetual motion.
Question Does anyone have any info or links re Finsrud's Perpetuum Mobile?
I just saw a programme on telly about this Norwegian artist who in 1996 made a machine that while not perpetual appeared to run at about 90% efficiency. I have searched online and most of the links I found have been removed or the article is no longer available. None of what I did find was at all recent. It seems amazing that this machine if it works at even 90% efficiency is not very well known. Has the machine been proven a fake and if so why can't I find anything about it still? Are the conspiracy theorists actually on to something here? After all, our so profitable oil economy truly would be at risk from such a device.

eternalmotor.t15.org New site added, check it out if you want some pointers to developing the theory on a perpetual motion machine. Also working schematics and diagrams. : ) Let me first say something here. This is not perpetual motion in the sense that conventional science would normally think of it. First of all, the law of conversation of energy IS NOT broke here folks and complies fully with most known laws of physics. Those laws do stay intact indeed. However one law that has been broken because of it's age old idea that needs revision is Lenz's law. This law has been broken on two different occasions here, so then there is NO reflection back to the source by the slowing down of the rotor, therefore dwindling the generated energy. No energy is wasted here, every single bit of it is recycled, and then some. Perpetual motion is found everywhere in nature, an atom with the electrons spinning in orbit around the nucleus, the earth spinning around it's star (Our sun), and so forth. As newton put it, an object in motion, tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside source. So in this case a motor has all sorts of losses, resistive losses in the coil resistance, which is inevitable, air friction, gravity friction, and friction in the bearings and then of course bemf, which in this case has been completely eliminated and turned around to act as an advantage, not a hinderance. These frictions are very small losses and there is more than enough energy to compensate ...

Question How to build a perpetual motion motor ?
I want to learn how to make a perpetual motion motor if someone could help me out on how to build one that would be great Thanks

Best Answer It's impossible. You see, entropy is the result of the passage of time in a sense and the only way according to relativity to go back in time is to travel faster than light which is impossible due to inertial mass. There is a speed of light for a reason. Try pushing a cart from 0 mph to 10 mph; it accelerates pretty quickly, but it becomes increasingly difficult the faster you go and it takes an infinite amount of energy to accelerate a mass to the speed of light and infinite energy is impossible. So it's impossible to go at the speed of light with a mass let alone faster than light. Therefore time travel to the past is impossible, and therefore reversing entropy is impossible because entropy is a function of time in a sense. This may all seem irrelevant, but it is completely relevant and helps you to have a better understanding of why perpetual motion is impossible. A concise explanation would be that perpetual motion is impossible due to entropy. *All* of the supposed "perpetual motion machines" operate by the transference of motion and therefore do not violate the 2nd law of thermodynamics. Perpetual motion machines are an illusion. EDIT: The link that "NTH IQ" posted to the "perpetual motion" machine isn't a perpetual motion machine at all, this machine again operates on the transference of motion.
Question If you ever thought of the idea of creating a perpetual motion motor, then would you ever think of the idea...?
of using energy and then reusing it? If so, then explain why, how ,and when you would make it. P.S. Be sure to keep your answers reasonable!

Best Answer As a Sophomore at MIT I thought I had developed a perpetual motion machine using electrostatic forces. I would have given it to the world for nothing, money wasn't a consideration because I loved science (and still do). My Teaching Assistant spent about half an hour working with me before he could locate the source of loss (molecular flexion). He was as delighted with my seriously attempting to do something he knew to be impossible, as I was in thinking I had succeeded, the whole process was one of growth and excitement. If you have any such idea, I hope you will pursue it to a clear result, you will find yourself more motivated than you will ever be by a class or work assignment, and you will be doing the sort of imaginative and exploratory thinking that will some day be the strength of your professional accomplishments.
Question Why is it not possible for perpetual motion motors?
based solely on magnets, I dont see how this is different than using electromagnets which would work.

Best Answer Electromagnets can be turned on to attract a permanent magnet in a specific direction of rotation and turned off when they pass the permanent magnet to prevent them from being pulled back in the opposite direction. Permanent magnets only in a rotating device, unfortunately, cannot be turned on and off and will simply oscillate for a short time until they reach equilibrium and no further uneven forces are present. As I type this, there's no doubt in my mind that many people are working on prototypes and different designs to prove me wrong - but they will not have to prove me wrong, they will have to prove some very basic physical laws concerning the conservation of mass/energy wrong, and that's extremely unlikely.

THE TRUE ABOUT THE FREE ENERGY MAGNETIC MOTORS GENERATORS 99-100% MAGNETIC MOTORS GENERATORS = FAKE before see hundreds of videos with magnetic motors and make my projects/tests my opinion about this is clear......... is almost impossible build a magnetic motor and produce free energy...... this comment explain what I think: People have been trying for years to get magnetic motors to work. Notice how the ones that are supposedly almost ready for sale have the adding of comments disabled? I can state quite clearly and strongly that all videos showing these devices working are faked. What many people fail to understand is that for a magnetic motor to work it would mean there is an energy input to overcome friction. Magnets do not give off energy. Magnets do not pull energy from space (zero point energy). That is information quoted by free energy believers who don't understand science. In the world of physics you never get something for nothing. The fact you can't buy a magnetic motor, even a toy one must give you and idea they are impossible. One thing you have to remember is that the force required to bring two magnets into position to allow repulsion to occur is the same as the force acquired when those two magnets repulse. Magnets in a magnetic motor are really only acting as springs. There are no shield that can be used to reduce the force required to bring to magnets together, any reduction would also reduce the repulsion that produces output. There is nothing wrong ...

Question What happened the the Perpetual Magnetic Motor guys?
Here is the link to the video, which was taped YEARS ago. What happened to them? I assume it is either: A: It isnt true... ...because they were unaware that it was drawing power from somewhere else ...because they wanted to be famous for being on TV and decieved people ...because they wanted people to invest a lot of money to get rich on nothing B: It is true and... ...it is still being processed before being released ...power companies bought the patent and locked it up so it can't be produced http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rw_DBh5gmw Please tell me if you know what happened!! And dont say "idk..." Thanks in advanced!!!!

Best Answer probably one of these two or a combination: ...because they wanted to be famous for being on TV and decieved people ...because they wanted people to invest a lot of money to get rich on nothing .
Question Are magnetic motors perpetual?
Hi, I have a question about magnetic motors, please answer this question only if you are an electromagnetic engineer. I know that magnets alone can generate repulsion and that repulsion has been used in magnetic motors like the Howard Johnson or the Newmann motor. Magnets keep the motor spinning for long time, but eventually stop to work, right? At that point the magnets need to be remagnetized again and that requires electricity, right? Isn't that already proof that magnetic motors are not perpetual?

Best Answer No, nothing in this world is "perpetual." I would encourage you to look at the first and second laws of thermodynamics, that energy cannot be created or destroyed (first law) and that any energy transfer from one form to another will be imperfect and result in some of the energy going to non productive means like heat (second law). So these "laws" have been around for many years and we have not seen any example yet that correctly contradicts either of these laws. If anyone wants to tell you these magnetic motors are perpetual, ask to see one that has been running for a few years.
Question Where is free energy? Magnetic motors, hydrogen motors, perpetual motion generators?
Why is it not on the shelves or in ebay catalogs?

Best Answer This kind of stuff is still not mass marketed mainly because of skepticism around the world, I have personally found magnetic energy generators to be the best option for alternative energy. They require no light, no wind or grid electric to even start, and once they are working they don't stop for years to come. Many people are unaware that you can easily build your own magnetic energy generator from common easy to find parts. It's a shame more people don't build magnetic energy generators as a device like this could rid us all of the current energy crisis. Check the source below for more information.

Invented by Mr. Reidar Finsrud, the whole machine is placed inside a glass mount, to prevent visitors who view the machine in the gallery from touching it. A steel ball (about 2.7 inch diameter, 20 pound) is rolling on an aluminum track, about 25 inches in diameter, placed horizontally. Three pendulums, about 45 inches long with tunable weights at the lower end, controls three horse-shoe magnets that the steel ball has to pass by on the track. Embedded in the track is a (mechanical) controlling/timing mechanism. It looks like a steel wire bent into a triangular track, 5 inches long. The ball rolls over it and pushes the wire down through a slot in the track. This affects one of the pendulums and regulates its swinging motion. The steel ball has not stopped revolving for months. I would like to thank tiroirdelmare for making the footage longer, so you can get an idea of how it works, Thanks tiroirdelmare :)

Bela Fleck is one of the greatest five-string banjo players performing today. Beginning in the 1970s, he honed his lightning-fast chops performing bluegrass, then moved on to contemporary jazz and fusion sounds. With this album, he broadens his horizons once again by performing an entire program of classical music transcriptions. Reminiscent of classical guitar albums by John Williams (who makes a guest appearance here), the disc traverses a wide range of repertoire--from Chopin mazurkas to Bach's Two and Three Part Inventions. Throughout, Fleck displays a feathery touch on his banjo, and his instrument offers a pleasant, brassy tone with very little twang. The technique he displays on Perpetual Motion is astounding and a refreshing change of pace from the smooth grooves found on the banjoist's Flecktones recordings. The arrangements are generally minimalist and understated, but violinist Joshua Bell, bassist Edgar Meyer, mandolinist Chris Thile, and percussionist Evelyn Glennie join in on this groundbreaking disc. Bluegrass purists may be disappointed (this is a far cry from the free-spirited, folksy abandon found on Sony's Short Trip Home and Appalachian Journey CDs), but classical fans will be astounded by how perfectly natural Fleck's banjo sounds on these works. --Jason Verlinde

Question perpetual motion?
I've been told all my life that perpetual motion is impossible. Isn't the earth motion perpetual? Therefore, if we tap into such things as waves shouldn't that be counted as successful free energy. it mukes more sense than the"drinking bird" of the seventies

Best Answer Perpetual motion is the idea that a closed system (with no energy coming in) can continue to produce energy. When you rely on external forces such as wind, solar, etc... it is referred to as renewable energy. The earth spinning around the sun will go on for a very long time, but eventually the system will fail when the sun burns out or slighly before when the sun expands to cover the orbit of the earth... not scheduled any time soon so I wouldn't waste time worrying about it. That was a good question though since it points out the difference between these two energy types and addresses an underlying misunderstanding a lot of people have about perpetual motion.
Question Perpetual Motion?
I don't believe perpetual motion is impossible, am I the only one? But there HAS to be a way to get free energy. If not perpetual motion, something very very economical, which is close to it, there has to be. Someone else believe too?

Best Answer There is and there isn't such a thing. In theory, it is possible to have a perpetual motion machine, but not in practice thanks to the existence of friction and similar effects. Also, there is the little issue of the conservation of energy. Energy is neither destroyed or created but it can be stored and harnessed. For example, take a simple pendulum. For the sake of theory, let us say it is absolutely free of friction and any other physical effects that would normally stop it. If you set the pendulum swiniging, it will therefore swing forever and be a simple perpetual motion machine. However, it will be totally useless as a source of energy because of two reasons: 1) It did not start swinging on its own accord, something else provided the energy that set it into motion. If you lifted the pendulum up in one direction and let it go, you provided the energy for the motion. The pendulum will have that energy stored as kinetic energy (in the form of its swinging motion), but it will not be creating additional energy. 2) If you try to use the pendulum's motion to accomplish some sort of work, you will rob the pendulum of its energy and it will eventually stop swinging. There is no such thing as "free energy" because it has to have a source and it has to go somehwere. Also, a perpetual motion machine as described above cannot exist anyway. Your suggestion that an energy source could be exploited with a very high rate of efficiency is a far more likely scenario. Making use of exisiting heat, light and motion energy in the natural environment is the best solution as these sources of energy are renewable without a supply of fuel to be consumed. With current technology there are few other options.
Question How could I incorperate perpetual motion into my science fair project?
I really wish I could do my project on perpetual motion but the thing is I do not know how to experiment with it. You have to have 10 trials of one experiment and I just do not know how to make it work. I AM NOT TRYING TO INVENT A PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE. I just want to create an experiment showing why it will not work. Or something along those lines.

Best Answer If you're serious, you could study the previous attempts, organize them into types, and show their failings. You could learn just enough thermodynamics to discuss intelligently how it applies. You could choose a method you think makes the most sense or has the best chance of succeeding, and design an experiment to test it, even if the experiment couldn't be completed in your lifetime. You could also choose one you could test during the school year, perhaps with a surplus gyrocompass. You could study and discuss things like planetary orbits, electron orbits, and the unattenuated travel of a photon for millions of years, and why they do or do not qualify. Your exhibit could present one candidate as a challenge, and ask the viewer to explain why it is or is not perpetual motion. You'd have a lot of research and a little experiment. You'd have a catchy title, but perhaps not an engaging display. If you do, I'd appreciate acknowledgement and a copy of your report. If you succeed in finding a useful mechanism, I won't demand any of your profits, but I would like an invitation to your Nobel Prize presentation. I'm not trying to change your mind, or asking you to expect to invent a PMM. But as you study, keep your mind open and skeptical, and don't dismiss any candidate until you get a solid and rational reason.
